Race Crashes

We covered DE crashes, but what about race crashes? They are just as addictive to watch, and for a racer, just as interesting to analyze.

Squeezing Cars Off Track

This is a case of two cars coming together when the following car is gaining on the leading car and the leading car then positions itself, intentionally or not, in such a way that the following car has nowhere to go, usually because there are barriers around the course and the leading car leaves less than a car width between itself and such a barrier.

The following car's options are to lift or go into the leading car. When the second option is chosen, we get a Youtube video. My opinion is the following car is generally at fault in these collisions, but the leading car's driver still gets to repair - or write off in some cases - their car too.

Spec Miata crash at Sebring - the green car that's on the outside of the camera car supposedly jumped the start. The track narrows right where the crash happened, and the camera car did not allow any room for the green car. Green car chose not to lift and pit maneuvered the camera car into the wall.
